A new electric car fleet is being delivered to Gloucestershire cops, that’s what!
Admittedly the car under wraps in the picture isn’t one of the expected deliveries…. well, hopefully not…. but this website tries to stick with photos taken very locally.
Gloucestershire Constabulary is taking delivery of 75 electric Nissan cars. It will then have the second largest police force fleet of fully electric cars in the UK after only the London Met – but Gloucestershire will have the largest in the UK by proportion at 21%.
The new electric cars are expected to save the Gloucestershire force over £138,000 per year in fuel bills and to reduce C02 emissions by 190 tonnes per year.
Out of the 75 new cars, 66 of the cars are Nissan Leaf electric hatchbacks of which 11 will be marked cars. The other 9 cars will be Nissan e-NV200 vans.
The vehicles will be recharged at the station overnight. The Nissan Leaf e+ can do up to 239 miles on one charge. The Nissan e-NV200 can do up to 187 miles between charges.
Gloucestershire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Martin Surl said:
“The purchase of these new vehicles is a huge step forward for the Constabulary to reduce its carbon and pollution, and meets part of my commitment to ‘A Green and Pleasant County’ that was outlined in my Police and Crime Plan.
“It’s a journey we’ve been on for five years and is part of a long-term commitment by my office to ensure our environment is considered at every opportunity.
“The new fleet will save a considerable amount of Co2 and money, giving Gloucestershire a larger percentage of fully-electric vehicles in its fleet than any other force. I hope the constabulary will be able to build on this great work, and extend its electric fleet to 40 per cent within the next four years.”
